Elemér Vadászi TEACHING Cigányos Csárdás & Cigánytánc

ABOUT THE TEACHER:

Elemér Vadászi is from Nyirégyhaza, Hungary.  For 12 years he has
danced in the
award-winning Nyirség Ensemble, one of the best-known folk dance
groups in
Hungary.  During his current stay in the U.S., he has taught in New
York and
Texas, as well as in Washington, DC's, Tisza Ensemble.  Nyirégyhaza
and the
surrounding villages have a large Gypsy population, and their
exciting dances
and music are still a part of social life in many towns.  Dance
ethnographers
believe Gypsy dances preserve the oldest elements of Hungarian
dancing.  Elemér
will be teaching the Cigányos Csárdás, a light-hearted, flirtatious
couple
dance, and the Cigánytánc, a solo dance featuring intriguing rhythms
for the men
and subtle grace for the women.

PLACE:

Starting Point Dance Studio.  From Interstate 495 (Washington
Beltway) take exit
25B which is Route 1 (Baltimore Ave.) south toward College Park.  Go
14 lights
including the light at the ramp.  Turn left onto Calvert Road.  The
studio is
the first building on the right, behind the Clean & Lean
laundromat/fitness
center.

ADMISSION:
$8 for afternoon session and $5 for Táncház

ABOUT THE TÁNCHÁZ:

The táncház starts at 7:30p.m. and will begin with a review of the
dances
featured in the afternoon workshop.  Dancing will continue to live -
featuring
TÁNCHÁZ! and Maros Ensemble - and recorded music until 10:30p.m.  The
basic
steps of the dances will be demonstrated in teaching circles while
each dance is
ongoing.  You may bring food and drink as a donation to the snack
table.  Please
bring dance footwear.
